5 Reasons predicting the Uefa Champions League Winner is still impossible

After some impressive displays from Barcelona and Chelsea this week predicting the Winner of the UEFA Champions League is not getting any easier.

Here are the results I am commenting on:

Villarreal - Arsenal 1-1
Manchester United - FC Porto 2-2
FC Barcelona - Bayern Munich 4-0
FC Liverpool - Chelsea 1-3

1. Manchester United seemed to have the easiest job so far as they have a good road through to the final, but it wasn't nearly as easy as it seemed as they only managed a 2-2 at home against FC Porto.

After the draw of the quarter finals everyone saw Manchester already in the final, going past Porto and the winner from Villarreal and Arsenal should have been just a walk in the park for the Champions of Europe.

2. The best play was offered by Barcelona and Chelsea but they will meet in the semifinal.

It is clear that Barcelona played the best football in this week fixtures from the UEFA Chapions League when they crushed Bayern Munich 4-0 (and that at half time), the trick is they will have to play the team that showed no mercy in front of the goal and that was Chelsea. Liverpool was really expected to do a good performance, because they always manage that in Europe, but it seems that this year is not for them.

3. One of the small teams might win it, and the best example here is FC Porto, the club no one expected would be able to win in 2004, and now they had a great game against Manchaster in an away game, Villarreal is also a team that no one is watching and talking about and that is always an advantage

4. Playing very well in one round does not guarantee anything, ant that is what Liverpool have showed us after beating Real Madrid in such an impressive way last round, also Bayern scored 12 goals against Sporting Lisbon but that did not help them against Barcelona.

5. And the most important argument: it's Football, the ball is round and anyone can win.

  1. You're absolutely right on point 5 - but it's exceptionally difficult to see past Barcelona at present. They're dominating La Liga, haven't broken a proper sweat in the Champions League yet and, even including Messi, you can't imagine that one or two injuries would derail either campaign.

They'd be my tip but like you say, point 5 rules.

  2. Matthew,

Barcelona are a very good and spectacular side but at the moment they depend on the individual force the players have to solve a match by themselves, when a stronger side will come along, and that will be Chelsea, they will see that it is not always that easy.

  17. As the champions league final has ever been, this year it's gonna be a wonderful game, cause both teams will fight for any chance to get the title. As the host, Bayen Munich seems to have little bit more chance to win and also cause Bayen and Germany havnt win the CL since 2001, but Chelsea wont let this chance go to obtain its first title. Since 1992, Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid dominated the game, but also Bayren Munich won once and reached the final twice, while chelsea did once.
